NBA Note - Dallas Mavericks Noel, Nerlens

F/C Nerlens Noel, who was a restricted free gent, signed a one-year qualifying offer of $4.1 million to return to the Dallas Mavericks for the 2017-18 season, according to multiple reports Saturday. The signing comes less than a week after Noel replaced his agent with Klutch Sports Group's Rich Paul, who also represents LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Noel, 23, will become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. The 6-foot-11, 228-pound Noel averaged 8.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 22 minutes in 22 games for the Mavericks after arriving in Dallas at the trade deadline from the Philadelphia 76ers.

NBA Note - San Antonio Spurs Ginobili, Manu

G Manu Ginobilli re-signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday and it appears he will become the eighth player to spend his entire career with one team and play at least 16 seasons. The club did not announce terms of the deal but Ginobilli reportedly was re-signed to a two-year deal worth $5 million. The 40-year-old appeared in 69 games last season and averaged 7.5 points. He also shot 39 percent from the floor in 18.7 minutes per game. Since making his debut for the Spurs in 2002, Ginobilli has averages of 13.6 points, 3.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 992 games.

NBA Note - Miami Heat Mickey, Jordan

F Jordan Mickey, formerly of the Boston Celtics, signed with the Miami Heat on Sunday. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal is worth the $1.5 million guaranteed veteran minimum, according to the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel. Mickey, 23, split last season between the Celtics and the Maine Red Claws of the NBA G League. He appeared in 12 games (all starts) with the Red Claws, averaging 20.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2.75 blocks, 1.6 assists and 32.6 minutes while shooting 51.5 percent from the field, 43.8 percent from 3-point range and 75.6 percent from the foul line. Mickey appeared in 25 games (one start) with the Celtics last season and averaged 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.6 minutes of action while shooting 44.1 percent from the field. The 6-foot-8, 238-pound Mickey, a former second-round pick (33rd overall) of the 2015 NBA Draft out of LSU, averaged a nation's best 3.64 blocks in his final season at LSU, blocking at least 100 shots in consecutive seasons to become just the second player in school history to reject at least 100 shots during a single season, joining Shaquille O'Neal.

NBA Note - Boston Celtics Pierce, Paul

G/F Paul Pierce's No. 34 will be retired by the Boston Celtics during the season next year, cementing his 15-year legacy with the franchise. The Celtics announced Friday they will honor Pierce after a midseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, Feb. 11. A 10-time All-Star, Pierce spent the first 15 years of his career with the Celtics, helping the club to the NBA title in 2008. Pierce averaged 21.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.44 steals and 36.6 minutes in his 1,102 career games with the Celtics.

F Kevin Durant of the NBA champion Golden State Warriors issued an apology for comments he claims were "taken out of context" regarding the development of basketball in India. G Ben McLemore will be sidelined close to three months after breaking a bone in his right foot, the Grizzlies announced Tuesday. The Grizzlies said McLemore suffered a non-displaced fracture of the fifth metatarsal during a pickup game in Los Angeles when he landed on the foot of another player. McLemore underwent surgery to repair the bone. The 24-year-old is entering his initial season with the Grizzlies after playing his first four seasons with the Kings. He signed a two-year, $10.7 million deal with Memphis.

The New York Knicks have reportedly hired former Oregon State basketball coach Craig Robinson, the brother of former first lady Michelle Obama, to a front office position.


NBA Note - Los Angeles Clippers Reed, Willie

C Willie Reed, recently signed by the Los Angeles Clippers, was arrested early Sunday morning in Miami on a domestic violence charge of misdemeanor battery. Reed's wife, Jasmine Reed, told police the former Miami Heat player pulled her hair while she was holding their youngest child. She said she later bashed him in the head with a glass candle to escape Saturday afternoon at their downtown Miami luxury apartment, according to the Miami Herald. Reed told police he never put his hands on his wife but did touch her hair as she got on the elevator. Reed admitted he grabbed her purse and her shirt, according to the arrest report. The police report noted Jasmine Reed "had red marks on her left wrist, right bicep, the right side of her chest and her back. She also had some swelling on her left foot." Reed finalized a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Clippers last week to be their backup center.

NBA Note - Detroit Pistons Maxiell, Jason

F Jason Maxiell signed with the Detroit Pistons on Friday, allowing the team's former forward to retire as a member of the organization. "Jason and his representatives reached out to us regarding his desire to sign one last contract with the team in order to retire as a Detroit Piston," general manager Jeff Bower said in a statement. "Jason made an impact on and off the court with the organization, spending eight seasons in Detroit, many with deep playoff runs. We're pleased that Jason has chosen to remain connected to our organization and wish him well in the future." Drafted 26th overall by Detroit in the 2005 NBA Draft out Cincinnati, the 6-foot-7, 260-pound Maxiell spent eight seasons with the Pistons, averaging 6.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 19.1 minutes in 523 games. The Chicago native was a part of four playoff runs from 2005-08, including three Eastern Conference finals appearances. He averaged 4.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 16.6 minutes in 35 career playoff games. Maxiell was known for his defense, finishing his Pistons career with 426 blocks -- ninth all-time in franchise history. His best season was in 2007-08 when he averaged a career-high 7.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.1 blocks and 21.6 minutes in 82 games, helping the club earn its sixth consecutive Eastern Conference finals appearance. After his stint with Detroit, Maxiell spent time with the Orlando Magic (2013-14) and Charlotte Hornets (2014-15) before signing overseas. In his 10-year NBA career, he averaged 5.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 18.4 minutes in 618 games.

NBA Note - Golden State Warriors McGee, JaVale

C JaVale McGee has re-signed with the NBA champion Golden State Warriors. Although terms of the agreement were not released, multiple media outlets reported last week that McGee would sign for a minimum contract. The 29-year-old appeared in 77 games last season, averaging 6.1 points, 3.1 rebounds and just under a block a game. He shined in a first-round Western Conference playoff game against the Portland Trail Blazers, shooting 7-for-7 from the floor while scoring 15 points and blocking four shots in 13 minutes.
