GEARIN’ UP FOR A MONSTER
NFL WEEK 16 – WILL THE BETTING FAVS
KEEP UP THEIR (RECENT) WINNING BEAT? …
MORE BOWL COVERAGE AS WE
PREVIEW THREE (3) SATURDAY TILTS –
THAT’S THE NEW MEXICO BOWL, THE CURE BOWL
AND THE BOCA RATON BOWL
Hey, what do you know?
NFL Betting Favorites actually have strung together back-to-back winning weeks (see accompanying chart below) for the very first time this season though we must admit 8-7-1 ATS (against the spread) in Week 14 and then 9-6-1 ATS in Week 15 hardly qualifies as a major success following what happened to chalk sides the first 13 weeks of this current campaign.
As you can see, the Favs have been playing catch-up all year long against the Dogs though as you can see the past five weeks NFL Favorites are a decent 40-33-3 against the odds …we’ll keep you posted right throughout the end of this regular season, so keep checking in here with Jim Sez.

In other NFL Week 15 News & Notes …
Two of the most overlooked “hot sides” in the league where they play for pay are the Buffalo Bills (5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-0-1 ATS in their last four outings) and both of these teams will be in action on Saturday when the NFL Network folks dish out a tripleheader – and how about the Saturday night host San Francisco 49ers who may have badly blown last week’s 29-22 loss to Atlanta but the Niners (now 9-5 ATS) have covered four of their last five games and could wind up with the team’s best spread mark since 2013 when SF finished 12-6-1 ATS …
Finally, who’s the “coldest” spread side lately?
Try on the Detroit Lions who have failed to cover eight of their last nine tilts and give “honorable mention” to the sagging Oakland Raiders who have lost five in a row to the almighty number.

COLLEGE BOWL BONANZA
On Saturday, it’s …
NEW MEXICO BOWL – at Albuquerque, NM
CENTRAL MICHIGAN (8-5) vs. SAN DIEGO STATE (9-3) – 2 p.m. ET, ESPN
It’s been a highly unusual season for the San Diego State squad: Normally the Aztecs are among the nation’s top-ranked rushing units but this year the Mountain West Conference crew ranks a lowly 103rd (averaging 133.7 yards rushing per game) and so veteran QB Ryan Agnew may have to rescue the ‘Tecs here as 3.5-point betting favorites. Central Michigan QB Quenten Dormady (2,148 yards passing and 14 TDs) comes in hot after completing 71 percent of his throws in the Chippewas’ last three games.
Spread Notes – Central Michigan is an electric 9-3-1 ATS (against the spread) this season including a solid 4-2-1 spread mark as underdog sides; San Diego State has covered just three-of-eight previous bowl games under 9th-year head coach Rocky Long and overall the SDSU Aztecs are just 5-10 against the odds as betting favorites since the start of 2018.
CURE BOWL – at Orlando, FL
LIBERTY (7-5) vs. GEORGIA SOUTHERN (7-5) – 2:30 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network
Give me Liberty or … oh, never mind! The Liberty Flames pack a mighty punch on offense where QB Stephen Calvert (11,375 career passing yards) looks to the air waves with an upset in mind against 5-point favorite Georgia Southern. Hey, the Eagles operate an efficient triple-option ground game that averaged 261.5 yards a game this year and if QB Shai Werts can spot a deep throw here or there then this Sun Belt Conference squad will make it two bowl wins in as many years (beat Eastern Michigan 23-21 in the 2018 Camellia Bowl).
Spread Notes – Georgia Southern is just 11-15-1 ATS away since the start of the 2016 season; Liberty is a sizzling 7-2-1 spreadwise in its last 10 games this year and that includes two-of-three covers against fellow bowl teams (against Buffalo and BYU).
BOCA RATON BOWL – Boca Raton, FL
SMU (10-2) at FLORIDA ATLANTIC (10-3) – 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC
No doubt this one lost some luster when FAU boss-man Lane Kiffin high-tailed it to Ole Miss (a very good move for him and the SEC school) a couple of weeks back but the bottom line for this bash in Boca is the host Owls have scored 34+ points in each of their last six outings while SMU averages 43 points per game (that’s sixth-best among FBS teams) as QB Shane Buechele (3,626 yards passing with 33 TDs) has been a godsend via the University of Texas. Hey, is the totals price of 70 points high enough here? Not kidding!
Spread Notes – All hail the FAU Owls who enter this bowl tilt at 9-4 versus the vig this year and with a composite ATS mark of 21-15-1 in the three-year Kiffin Era (that’s a solid .583 winning rate); SMU roared out of the ’19 starting gate with five consecutive pointspread “W’s” but note the Ponies enter this road clash at 7-4-1 ATS overall this year under second-year boss Sonny Dykes.
