THERE’S MORE NFL PRESEASON WEEK 1 CHIT-CHAT AHEAD –

WE HIT THE REWIND BUTTON ON A FEW OF THURSDAY NIGHT’S

GAMES PLUS QUICK-HITTER COMMENTS ABOUT THIS EVENING’S

TILTS IN BOTH PITTSBURGH & NEW ORLEANS

Here’s a little warning to fans – and bettors – regarding NFL Preseason Week 1 results:

Don’t exactly get too caught up in the good stuff or the bad stuff, remember that it’s only one game.

Okay, so that being said the full-blown opening night of NFL Preseason games – 11 of ‘em in all – produced some major ups and downs for young quarterbacks and here’s a little rundown:

THE GOOD

KYLER MURRAY, Arizona – Nothing not to like about the #1 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft as the smallish Murray completed 6-of-7 passes for 44 yards while working out of the shadow of his own team’s goal line. Hey, the lone INC was actually because his receiver stepped out of bounds, then caught the pass and thus the incomplete pass ruling but Murray was a cool customer in his one series while – granted -- all his throws were 10 yards or less in distance. P.S., from the look of things, Cardinals’ rookie head coach Kliff Kingsbury will have plenty of run / pass options made available for Murray who never did tuck it and run in his pro opener.

DANIEL JONES, New York Giants – The Broadway stage was set for the draft’s #6 pick and … whatta debut it was! The 6-foot-5 Jones was a dazzling 5-of-5 passing for 67 yards and one right-on-the-money 12-yard scoring strike to WR Bennie Fowler in the Giants’ storm-interrupted 31-22 win against the 1.5-point favored New York Jets. Jones played behind the Giants’ first-string offensive line and – okay, he failed to motion his tight end on one play but otherwise was picture-perfect – and you can hear the rumblings in / around New Jersey to replace 16-year pro Eli Manning sooner rather than later.

JOSH ROSEN, Miami – The Dolphins’ 34-27 win /cover against 4-point underdog Atlanta featured a 191-yard passing game from the 2018 first-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals but there was a pick plus Rosen was smacked around pretty good and so not everything was peaches-and-cream for the second-year dart-thrower. Still, the Dolphins liked his decision-making overall and a solid 13-of-20 passing stat line gave you the feeling he’s way up on old pro Ryan Fitzpatrick for the team’s#1 spot despite the fact Miami’s acted as if this is a “toss up”.

Now hear this …

Jim Hurley and his Network of Handicappers and Bloggers will be banging out loads of winners in this NFL preseason and there’s still a batch of games remaining on this NFL Preseason Week 1 menu including two tilts tonight – that’s Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh, Minnesota at New Orleans plus there’s Three (3) games on the NFL Preseason Week 1 docket on Saturday including the defending NFC champion LA Rams at the Oakland “Hard Knocks” Raiders. Jim Hurley’s clients are gonna do a lot of cashing and don’t forget that Jim Hurley keeps piling up the profits with Major-League Baseball too – get all the NFL and MLB winners this weekend at www.jimhurley.com or via our toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453.

THE NOT-SO-GOOD

DWAYNE HASKINS, Washington – If you’re thinking that the Redskins were gonna just hand over their numero uno quarterback spot to this raw rookie from Ohio State, think again! The NFL Draft’s 15th overall pick back in April aired a pair of interceptions in Washington’s 30-10 loss at 1.5-point favorite Cleveland. Haskins did have plenty of zip on some of his completions – he finished 8-of-14 for 117 yards – but his “pick six” was a disaster and so right now journeyman Case Keenum (60 yards passing , one TD versus the Browns) has the upper hand.

GARDNER MINSHEW, Jacksonville – The Jaguars know that newly-inked veteran Nick Foles is their number one quarterback but, let’s face it, Foles has a history of getting injured and so second-string on this AFC South squad is important. So far, Minshew’s in over his head as he completed half of his 14 passing attempts for just 46 yards in last night’s 29-0 loss at 3.5-point fav Baltimore and he spent the better part of his evening picking himself off the Ravens’ field … yikes.

NFL PRESEASON WEEK 1 –

Tonight, it’s …

TAMPA BAY at PITTSBURGH – 7:30 p.m. ET

It’s Year One A.B. – After Brown, as in one-time Steelers’ mega-star WR Antonio Brown (the guy with the frostbitten feet out in Oakland!) and Mike Tomlin’s AFC North crew figures to take a good long look at some of the pass-catchers that will be asked to take up the slack beginning here: WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (see 111 receptions for 1,426 yards last year) is the clear #1 WR but watch tonight for Donte Moncrief – dealing with a finger issue these days – and James Washington to get in for a few series each. P.S., totals price of 37 points hasn’t moved all week long.

MINNESOTA at NEW ORLEANS – 8 p.m. ET

Keep your eyes on how the visiting Vikings handle their tight end situation: Veteran TE Kyle Rudolph has been dogged by a leg problem this week and he’s expected to not dress here and so Alabama rookie Irv Smith, Jr. could get targeted a few times here and ditto for second-year TE Tyler Conklin as both could be legitimate red-zone targets. Meanwhile, the Saints – currently a 2.5-point betting favorite (opened – 3) have to be cringing when they see pass interference calls get reversed on replay following last year’s NFC Championship Game fiasco against the Los Angeles Rams. Let it go, guys, let it go!
