WE TACKLE THE AMERICAN ATHLETIC AND BIG WEST
PLUS, KEY SPREAD NOTES TOO …
NFL FREE AGENCY OFF AND RUNNIN’
Remember what we said here at Jim Hurley’s Network prior to the start of this week?
There were gonna be a whole slew of opportunities to cash in on this week’s wall-to-wall College Basketball Conference Tournaments – otherwise known as the Mini Tourneys – as we informed y’all that there were 168 games in all from Monday-thru-Selection Sunday. Well, here’s a little update as we head into the uber-busy Thursday menu that features 54 games including action from all six of the so-called power conferences …
College Basketball Betting Favorites – so far, Monday-thru-Wednesday – are …
Monday, March 11 – Betting Favs went 8-4-1 ATS (against the spread) with 1 Pick ‘Em game
Tuesday, March 12 – Betting Favs went 5-3-0 ATS with 1 Pick ‘Em game
Wednesday, March 13 – Betting Favs went 17-11 ATS with 0 Pick ‘Em games
So, through the first three full days of mini-tourney action this week the chalk-eaters are a collective 30-18-1 (a hotsy-totsy .625 winning rate) and dogs will look to catch up a bit here on a Thursday card that’s got 54 games on the docket.
Now hear this …
Jim Hurley’s Network of Handicappers and Bloggers will keep beating the books with more College Basketball and NBA winners all week/weekend long plus don’t forget it’s Week 6 straight ahead in the AAF (Alliance of American Football), so, let’s cash in big here at www.jimhurley.com or via our toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453. Here’s more of this week’s College Basketball mini-tournies with the two leagues that tip off play beginning Thursday …
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT – Thurs-thru-Sun
at Memphis, TN
There’s a true national title contender in our AAC midst here … yup, you better believe this Houston Cougars (29-2, 16-2) club can win it all behind an air-tight defense that ranks 11th in the country while yielding just 61.6 points per game. Kelvin Sampson’s crew showed us something when it dismantled 2.5-point home favorite Cincinnati last Sunday afternoon with a killer second half at Fifth Third Arena as star Corey Davis, Jr. poured in a game-high 31 points and gotta believe Davis and Company will be cutting down the nets here come Sunday night but we won’t be surprised if there’s a few upsets brewing in these other tilts … will host Memphis make a run? How about Temple? Make sure you’re getting all the winners right here at www.jimhurley.com
The Favorite: Houston
The Dark Horse: Memphis
Pointspread Note: Houston’s 19-10 spread mark is the best of the bunch in the AAC but remember both UCF and USF each finished regular-season play with identical 18-11 pointspread marks.
BIG WEST CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT – Thurs-thru-Sat
Here’s one of those many one-bid leagues and – dare we say – it would be a bit of a shame if UC-Irvine (27-5, 15-1) wasn’t the team to win this mini-tourney considering the Anteaters’ dominant campaign. Note that UC-Irvine exists on defense (ranked 23rd in the nation) and a balanced if modest scoring attack that features nine different players averaging between 5.8 ppg and 12.1 ppg with G Max Hazzard the leader of this scoring pack. Hey, Irvine’s a two-TD favorite for its quarterfinal round game against Cal-Riverside but this is no slam dunk as it’s likely UCSB or Cal-Fullerton must be dealt with in the championship game.
The Favorite: UC-Irvine
The Dark Horse: Hawaii
Pointspread Note: CS-Northridge is a scintillating 20-8 against the odds this year (a .714 winning rate) and that includes five covers in its last six games.
In Wednesday’s mini-tourney action …
A batch of teams that – in our opinion – needed at least one conference tournament “W” this week to be safe-and-sound when it comes to an NCAA Tournament at-large bid and the likes of Oregon (20-12), N.C. State (22-10), Colorado (20-11), TCU (20-12) and St. John’s (21-11) all delivered but we’ll footnote both Oregon – an easy 84-51 winner against 12-point pup Washington State in a Pac-12 opening round game – and Colorado (a 56-51 non-cover winner against 10-point dog Cal in Pac-12 play) ‘cause neither can afford a lopsided loss here in Round II or they could be back on that bubble.
NFL FREE AGENCY
It’s a wild, wild world in the National Football League these days.
Wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. is a member of the Cleveland Browns – he wasn’t even a free agent and note those updated Super Bowl odds for the Brownies are way out of whack now – while RB Le’Veon Bell is a member of the New York Jets though he didn’t quite get the cash he was expecting on a four-year deal.
And speaking of the proverbial bottom line, right now we’ll say the biggest winners just one-plus full day into true free agency are the aforementioned J-E-T-S who also added LB C.J. Mosley and the Detroit Lions for landing D-lineman Trey Flowers. Can we ask what Dallas Cowboys exactly doing these days?
NOTE: We’ve got NBA and NCAA Basketball coverage all this week right here at Jim Sez – plus there’s Alliance of American Football action too -- so don’t miss out and make sure you’re rollin’ up all the winners at 1-800-323-4453 or right here online at www.jimhurley.com
