Jim Hurley Ends Another Winning Bowl Season with Clemson (+5.5) over Alabama 44-16 and starts the NFL Playoffs going 3-1 in the Wild Cards!!

THE COLLEGE FOOTBALL REPORT: CLEMSON'S THE GRIDIRON KING ONCE AGAIN AS WE HIT THE REWIND BUTTON ON THEIR ROLLICKING 44-16 WIN AGAINST 'BAMA ...

PLUS, OUR FINAL COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWL POINTSPREAD CHART AND OUR "FINAL FOUR" FOR NEXT YEAR

Maybe it's no coincidence at all: For the fifth consecutive year since College Football's National Championship Game was played to finish up the playoffs, a team that entered the game NOT #1 wound up winning the whole ball of wax ... and did you know that every time Alabama plays Clemson in the title game the team heading in #1 has lost?

That's three in a row, now (2015, '16 and '18 seasons).

The latest example was a real doozy as last night's 44-16 Clemson win against 5.5-point favorite 'Bama was a real game / set / match job with the ACC Tigers scoring the game's final 30 points while overcoming an early second-quarter 16-13 deficit. Never mind that Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa aired two uber-costly interceptions (one of 'em the early-game pick six), the Crimson Tide failed to finish a batch of drives and even one god-awful fake field goal went pfft ... the proverbial bottom line here is Clemson had a true freshman quarterback that stumbled a bit early and then really revved it up as QB Trevor Lawrence (347 yards passing with 3 TDs) was magnificent and that veteran D-line really absorbed some early blows, then didn't give an inch.

Sure, as Alabama head coach Nick Saban pointed out afterwards, the stats were pretty equal - Clemson had 482 offensive yards; Alabama had 430 - but everything Dabo Swinney's kids turned to gold after the first quarter (which Clemson led 14-13) while everything 'Bam touched turned to rot.

There's a new /old king of the hill and the Clemson Tigers - who beat 10 teams by 28-or-more points this season - have regained the crown. Job well done, gang!

Jim Hurley's Network of Handicappers and Bloggers have this weekend's NFL Divisional Playoff winners - that's Indianapolis at Kansas City / Dallas at the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday and the Los Angeles Chargers at New England / Philadelphia at New Orleans on Sunday and all you have to do is call us on game days at the toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453 or go online right here and also cash in big with NBA and NCAA basketball plays every day of the week!

Let's tie up all College Football-related pointspread news/notes here in this Jim Sez column:

As you can see from our chart above, the Big 12 and the ACC were the really big power conference winners versus the vig this bowl season with a combined 14-4 ATS (against the spread) record ... and how about the fact that wagering a buck a game on the SEC this bowl season would have lost you $270!

Meanwhile, College Football Bowl Favorites finished 17-23 ATS (a .425 winning rate) overall and that's really something when you stop to consider that Bowl Favs were once-upon-a-time 8-3 versus the vig while heading into the games of Dec. 22nd ... so that means Bowl Betting Favs went 9-20 ATS after that cat-quick start. In all, College Bowl "Over" players went 19-20-1 against the Las Vegas prices.

Remember, College Football Betting Favorites registered a 344-362-15 ATS mark (.487) with 12 Pick 'Em games prior to the bowls.

Finally, ... Before any of us knows who's back for the 2019 season, we'll have some fun and say we won't get a Clemson-Alabama matchup in the next championship game. Instead, our playoff teams next year will be Florida, Clemson, Georgia and Michigan with a predicted title tilt between Florida vs. Georgia ... and Georgia wins it all. Just don't hold us to it!
