COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS / NOTES:
POWER CONFERENCE COACHING VACANIES AHEAD
Okay, so the NFL Week 11 sked is – seemingly – all about the Monday Night Football battle in Mexico:
The Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams are already the talk of the town even though there’s a whole Thursday/Sunday card to navigate thru first but you should know both 9-and-1 SU (straight-up) teams are the only ones in the league where they play for pay in which both sides have a plus 100 (or more) points differential with the Chiefs at + 113 and the Rams at + 104 (New Orleans is close behind at +98 points) but where there is real separation is in the all-important NFL Pointspread Standings:
As you see below, Kansas City’s a league-best 8-2 ATS (against the spread) while the LA Rams are a less-than-mediocre 4-5-1 versus the vig. But we’ve sure you’ve seen that the “early money” is on the Rams who opened at – 1.5 points and shot up to – 2.5 points – even though it was announced that star WR Cooper Kupp (knee) has been lost for the year.
Lots more goodies ahead on Chiefs-Rams as we inch closer to this showdown South of the Border but first this reminder:
Jim Hurley and his Network of Handicappers and Bloggers banged out plenty of winners last weekend and now we’re ready to roar with lots more gridiron goodies as NFL Week 11 starts Thursday night with the Green Bay Packers at the Seattle Seahawks and there’s College Football winners every night this work week. COLLEGE FOOTBALL NEWS & NOTES
You tell us: Is it too early to begin speculation regarding a few major-college head-coaching jobs that are – or will be – vacant by year’s end?
Okay, so some of the names out there may not exactly excite you – sounds like one-time Arizona State boss Todd Graham will be heading to Kansas to replace the already-fired (and gone at year’s end) David Beaty -- but check out some of the other names/vacancies:
LOUISVILLE – Now that Bobby Petrino has been axed following his club’s 0-7 SU (straightup) start inside the ACC, there’s plenty of folks believing current Purdue head coach and former Louisville star QB Jeff Brohm will get the nod but don’t think he’ll jump ship from the Big 10 to his alma mater. Instead, expect a mid-major success story – like UAB’s Bill Clark – to garner support here but don’t undersell the possibility that Florida Atlantic’s Lane Kiffin could pop up at the ‘Ville.
NORTH CAROLINA – You can wave bye-bye to 7th-year head coach Larry Fedora who’s never been able to duplicate that 11-win season back in 2015. Okay, so maybe this Tar Heels’ job isn’t considered “elite” but there’s gonna be interest with Louisiana Tech’s Skip Holtz said to be on the school’s short list or you might get a “name” that’s simply itching for a new challenge … Colorado’s Mike MacIntyre could be looking for an escape hatch elsewhere.
TEXAS TECH – Something tells us the folks in Lubbock have tired of 6th-year coach Kliff Kingsbury and his always-right-around-.500 squads. If T-Tech decides to part ways with Kingsbury, then Army’s Jeff Monken or Utah State’s Matt Wells could slip into the Red Raiders’ top chair.
