Gotta admit that we swiped this thought from a New York City-area tabloid that reminded us all that the Super Bowl LII pointspread - now it's New England favored by 5 points over Philadelphia, but the story was written earlier in the week when the Patriots were favored by 5.5 points - still is the largest SB spread since Pittsburgh (- 7) battled Arizona back in the 2008 NFL season (Steelers 27, Cardinals 23).

Let's track down the Super Bowls played since the '08 season and show you the winners/losers/pointspreads:

SB 44  New Orleans+ 4.5Indianapolis31-17
SB 45Green Bay- 2.5Pittsburgh31-25
SB 46NY Giants+ 3New England21-17
SB 47Baltimore+ 5San Francisco34-31
SB 48Seattle+ 2Denver43-8
SB 49New EnglandPKSeattle28-24
SB 50Denver   + 4.5Carolina24-10
SB 51New England- 3Atlanta34-28 (ot)

Again, all pointspreads of 5 points or less and did you notice that the Super Bowl Betting Favorites are just 2-5 ATS (against the spread) with one Pick 'Em tossed into the mix ... and one of those chalk wins was last year's come-from-way-way-behind overtime triumph by the NE Patriots over the Atlanta Falcons.

Is Super Bowl LII on Sunday, February 4th gonna follow a similar recent script where the dogs win outright (five of them in the past eight Super Bowls)? We shall see.

Meanwhile, you do wonder if we are gonna see more Las Vegas line movement on the big game in the coming days - no doubt that Philadelphia bettors banged home a healthy profit with last Sunday's NFC Championship Game win against Minnesota. The 38-7 laugher was a godsend for the folks who bet the Eagles and the money line.

Right now, the money line for this upcoming Super Bowl is Patriots - 210, Eagles + 175. Gut feeling is Philly's gonna be taking more loot and thus the betting line could drop another point by the weekend and the money line price will be lessened too.

There's a couple of Top 25 teams on the hardwood here on this Thursday night and so let's check 'em out:

#13 OHIO STATE (18-4, 9-0 Big 10) - No doubt the Buckeyes have been one of the country's two- or three biggest pleasant surprise teams this year as brand-new head coach Chris Holtmann has been a real modern-day savior (no one's saying the name Thad Matta 'round Columbus, if you've noticed!). The 'Eyes are actually a modest 11-9 versus the vig this 2017-18 season but they've covered eight of their last nine conference games and veterans Keita Bates-Diop, Jae'Sean Tate and C.J. Jackson have been the guts of this gang while combining for more than 45 points per game. Hey, right now Ohio State looks like a Sweet 16-type team to us. Tonight it's 10-point pup Penn State that rolls into town and note this will be Ohio State's fourth game in eight days.

#15 GONZAGA (17-4, 7-1 West Coast) - Last year's national championship runners-up to North Carolina really have been a below-the-radar team so far this year but listen up: Mark Few's club - a "three-touchdown" favorite tonight at Portland - is a so-so 9-8-1 against the odds this year but note the 'Zags are 18-7-2 ATS on the road dating back a couple of years and F Rui Hachimura is averaging 15.3 ppg and shooting better than 64 percent from the field in conference play - he's one of six Gonzaga players averaging in double figures for the year -- and no question Portland couldn't handle 'em a couple of weeks back when Hachimura netted 20 points on 8-of-10 FG shooting. Could be that Gonzaga is ready to make its "push" as the Bulldogs enter this clash having won seven of their last eight games in SU (straight-up) fashion.
