Back in the old days, the easiest money-making strategy in all of sports betting was simply to take all the underdogs in pre-New Year’s bowl games, then lay the points on New Year’s Day. It was simple as could be…and some years would make a fortune.
Back then, most favorites in the earlier bowls were “disappointed” that they hadn’t earned an invitation to a better bowl. They lacked motivation, and played with little fire. Underdogs, on the other hand, were excited about earning a bowl bid and knew they had an opportunity to make headlines by scoring an upset. The STRAIGHT UP record of dogs in many of these seasons would blow your mind. Come New Year’s, everybody took the games seriously, and chalk would often run away and hide on the scoreboard because inferior teams (who were much worse at passing back then) would implode while trying to catch up.
The world is much different now because there are SO MANY more bowls. Many of the earliest bowls match teams who aren’t very good by major conference standards. But, different cities want to promote tourism, and ESPN wants programming that will generate some ratings. Ergo, we have a lot of “exhibitions” matching teams outside the top 50, neither of whom may be all that excited about a trip to a part of the country they don’t care about.
That means we don’t have fired up underdogs looking to make a name for themselves against disappointed favorites. We have dogs who can barely execute their offenses getting points in games that neither team cares about. Sometimes the favorite does care because they’ve closed the season on a high note. Blowout city.
It’s no longer as simple as “take the dogs early and the favorites late,” though that may still sometimes work just because the public bets favorites in TV games. Smart bettors like you and WAYNE ALLYN ROOT must be much more discerning about picking our spots with SHOCK THE SYSTEM upsets.
Here are the keys I’ll be looking for when trying to find live bowl underdogs in this season’s slate, which begins Saturday with FIVE preliminaries (including the Las Vegas Bowl in my backyard!)
*Bet on OFFENSES that can SCORE! I always make this a point of emphasis with you. Too many “value-minded” handicappers look for “defensive dogs” that can keep the score close. That can work. But, it’s more common that you hang close for three quarters then lose your bet late when the favorite pulls away. You have to outscore your opponent to spring upsets. Offensive-minded underdogs can rally from behind, can get there in garbage time even if they don’t win the game, and, if they match up against a flat favorite, they can run away and hide to cover by 4-5 touchdowns.
*Bet on teams that closed the season STRONG! I’m not a big believer in what TV announcers call “momentum.” It’s the most over-used term in sports. But, it can be a real edge when you’re talking about bowl underdogs who played very well in November. They’re going to be in great spirits. Maybe they figured out how to rev their engines a bit later than everyone else…and will keep that going in their bowl. Back in October they didn’t think they’d be going to a bowl. Now, they get to party for an extra month.
*Bet on teams that are well-suited to exploit a favorite’s weakness. If the dog has a great quarterback and the opponent has a bad pass defense, that’s an auto-play. If the dog has a star running back, and the defense is bad against the rush, you’re going to control the point of attack while scoring points. If the dog has an aggressive defense that forces turnovers to set up easy points, and the favorite has a shaky quarterback who’s struggled all season against shaky defenses, an outright winner is headed your way. Don’t settle for “that line looks a little high to me.” Pinpoint the way each dog is going to get the job done. If you can’t find it, pass or bet the favorite.
I can’t release any specific ROOT TRUST selections here in a web article. That’s not fair to paying clients. I can tell you that I’m very confident about my top plays on this first Saturday of the bowl slate (as well as this weekend’s NFL!). And, some very big underdog releases are coming up in short order. There will be SHOCKERS GALORE once the schedule gets rolling.
You can purchase all the smart investments in THE ROOT TRUST right here at the website with your credit card. If you have any questions about which of my services best suits your individual needs, please talk to one of my representatives in the Vegas-Sports-Masters office at 1-888-777-4155. Be sure to ask about combination packages with basketball. There’s no reason to limit yourself to just football when the markets are this vulnerable.
I’m the only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the “Walk of Fame” here in Las Vegas. A big part of my legacy was created by my ability to win postseason games in all sports. March Madness. The World Series. The Super Bowl. And, obviously, the college football bowls and championship games. The 2017-18 bowl slate is about to begin. That means it’s time for YOU to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
