THE NFL THANKSGIVING DAY/NITE RE-CAPS PLUS, SATURDAY'S KEY COLLEGE TILTS INCLUDING THE IRON BOWL BASH BETWEEN #1 ALABAMA AT #6 AUBURN AS JIM HURLEY'S ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT ROLLS ON

The five-year anniversary of the famed "Butt Fumble" (see New England Patriots vs. New York Jets and QB Mark Sanchez in 2012) was recognized on a few of the highlight shows yesterday but there weren't any real "say what" moments on Thanksgiving Day/Night 2017. Still, here's some quickie recaps of the NFL Week 12 games played on Turkey Day:

MINNESOTA 30, DETROIT 23 - Who would have guessed that Vikings QB Case Keenum would pile up a bunch more "fantasy points" than Motown slinger Matthew Stafford who missed a slew of wide-open receivers as the Lions lost their first Thanksgiving Day game in five years. Keenum threw for 282 yards and two TDs to TE Kyle Rudolph as 9-and-2 Minny covered its sixth straight game.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS 28, DALLAS 6 - It's time for "America's Team" to say bye-bye to any/all playoff hopes as Jason Garrett's gang couldn't corral the Bolts' one-two punch of QB Philip Rivers (434 yards passing, 4 TDs) and streaky WR Keenan Allen (11 receptions for 172 yards and one score) while CBS analyst Tony Romo could have done better than the nose-diving Dak Prescott (0 TDs/ 2 INTs).

WASHINGTON 20, NEW YORK GIANTS 10 - The 'Skins do get credit for rebounding from last weekend's OT loss in New Orleans but, geez, this Giants' offense was pathetic as QB Eli Manning threw for 113 yards (plenty of drops by TE Evan Engram and friends) and NYG couldn't hunker down to slow up RB Samaje Perine (a solid 24-carry, 100-yard rushing game). Time for the Mara/Tisch families to ask head coach Ben McAdoo to hand in his keys right now and say farewell.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL'S SATURDAY MENU

Lots of Thanksgiving Day weekend standout games on tap here Saturday including ...

#1 ALABAMA (11-0, 7-0 SEC) at #6 AUBURN (9-2, 6-1 SEC) - 3:30 p.m. ET, CBS
Best game on the board - and by far - comes to us via the Southeastern Conference's nastiest rivalry - we doubt whether Alabama and Auburn fans even spoke a kind word to one another this holiday week! - but when you're looking for keys to victory here than consider 'Bama must not allow Auburn's rock-solid ground game (ranked fourth in the country) to get out of the gate quickly with RB Kerryon Johnson (1,172 yards rushing and 16 TDs) on a major roll while the Tigers' defense must bottle up QB Jalen Hurts in those third-and-five type plays where he utilizes his escape skills to make big plays. Keep in mind that the winner of this game has played for the national championship in seven of the past eight years ... but pointspread mavens should also note the Crimson Tide's covered 14 of its last 20 away games while War Eagle is just 5-9 ATS (against the spread) as underdogs the past three years.

#5 WISCONSIN (11-0, 8-0 Big 10) at MINNESOTA (5-6, 2-6 Big 10) - 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC
Okay, so it just seems to us the College Football Playoff committee doesn't want these here-and-now Wisky Badgers in their little four-team field at year's end - but as long as Paul Chryst's club keeps winning there's no way they're kept out. Wisconsin's beaten archrival Minnesota the past 13 years in a row - remember they play for Paul Bunyan's Axe, for goodness sake! - and Heisman Trophy long-shot RB Jonathan Taylor (1,657 yards rushing and 12 TDs) could catapult himself into the upper crust of candidates with a 150-yard plus ground game here. P.S., Wisconsin has held eight foes to 14 points or less this year.

#9 OHIO STATE (9-2, 7-1 Big 10) at MICHIGAN (8-3, 5-3 Big 10) - 12 p.m. ET, ABC
Everyone thought at season's start that this one had a shot to be for a Big 10 title and berth in the College Football Playoffs but only the O-State Buckeyes can hold out hope for that while Michigan's a nearly forgotten team in the land ... and if the Buckeyes win here it'll mark the sixth straight triumph over "Big Blue" and 13th in the last 14 years. Maybe Buckeyes' QB J.T. Barrett (32 TDs / 7 INTs) has some more magic up his sleeve here.
