You know that THE KING OF UPSETS WAYNE ALLYN ROOT loves nothing more than calling for outright upsets in high profile games and nailing them. I might be stepping out this coming Saturday because several ranked teams find themselves on the road as favorites against home dogs that are chomping at the big to make headlines.

Some quick examples:

#1 Alabama (-18) at Vanderbilt: That’s a tall spread for calling an upset. But, Vandy is coming off a home upset of Kansas State (a Power Play winner in The Root Trust last week), and will try to shorten the game to hang close. Alabama often has the mindset of coasting vs. teams that don’t scare them (which you’ve seen since the Florida State win), saving their best for their most dangerous foes. If the players dis-respect Vandy, this could get interesting.

#4 Penn State (-11.5) at Iowa: Iowa looked awful for much of the day against North Texas this past Saturday. They were obviously looking ahead to this one, knowing it was a prime time national telecast. Penn State is loaded. But, will they be too conservative at this dangerous site? That would play right into the hands of this opponent and its boisterous home crowd. Iowa has a knack for playing close against this kind of opponent.

#5 USC (-17) at California: USC came within 40 seconds of losing to Texas at this price. If you went to bed then, you missed California beating Ole Miss from the SEC. This price may be too overly influenced by preseason media hype rather than actual 2017 form. Is that enough to think about an upset? You’d have to think the Trojans got their wake-up call in overtime vs. the Horns. Maybe not!

#7 Washington (-10) at Colorado: A rematch of the Pac 12 championship game, where Colorado was humiliated. Will that cause Washington to come in overconfident. Hey, Colorado is a lot better than Rutgers…and Rutgers hung with the Huskies much longer than expected. Dog lovers could enjoy having altitude as a kicker as well. Definitely in the price range where an outright upset isn’t out of the question.

#8 Michigan (-10) at Purdue: What’s gotten into Purdue?! If you haven’t been paying attention, the Boilermakers have shown dramatic improvement this season. They hung with loaded Louisville until late in the game. Then they drilled Ohio and Missouri. They were TD underdogs to Mizzou and crushed them in Columbia. I like what I’m seeing with this new coaching regime and player attitude. Michigan hasn’t driven the field consistently well vs. Cincinnati and Air Force, which was hidden by defensive points. Very interesting spot.

#20 Florida (-2.5) at Kentucky: It’s kind of a crime that Florida is still in the top 20 after two losses. Sure, they should have held on to beat Tennessee…but it’s not like they looked like a ranked team through the afternoon anyway. And, the loss to Michigan looks worse now since the Wolverines couldn’t cover vs. Cincinnati and Air Force. Kentucky just earned a nice road dog win at South Carolina. But, the market is anticipating dog interest here with that low line…possibly taking away betting value. It’s not really “bold” to call for an upset with this short a dog.

#22 San Diego State (-3.5) at Air Force: The visitors are coming off a physically demanding home dog upset of Stanford. Will they have anything left in the tank for another grinder, at altitude, against the Falcons? For the sake of the upset call, it’s too bad Air Force is coming off that battle in Ann Arbor. I’d rather catch them fresh as a daisy rather than bruised and tired. Might be best to leave this one alone. But it will get serious consideration from me through the week.

Between now and the new weekend, I’ll be finding value for my clients in weeknight football and pennant race baseball. You can purchase all the smart investments in THE ROOT TRUST right here at the website with your credit card. If you have any questions about which of my services best suits your individual needs, please talk to one of my representatives in the Vegas-Sports-Masters office at 1-888-777-4155. Remember to ask about combination packages that include both baseball and football.

I have to admit that I’m disappointed with the start of the new season. But, we’re now coming into the historical sweet spot for UPSET CALLS and HEADLINE GRABBERS. The media and public are over-reacting to a few highly regarded teams, while some nice underdog spoilers are giving away hints in key boxscore stats. I’m the only man in the sports betting industry with a star on the “Walk of Fame” here in Las Vegas because I know how to exploit opportunities when they arise. That means it’s time for you to go to W.A.R. alongside WAYNE ALLYN ROOT!
