NFL WEEK 15
On Sunday night, it’s…
TAMPA BAY (8-5) at DALLAS (11-2) – 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC
Sorry for the following commentary but you have to be kidding!!!
The Dallas Cowboys are actually serious about possibly replacing rookie QB Dak Prescott (a league MVP nominee by many until last week) with veteran Tony Romo if/when things don’t go well here for Jerry Jones’/Jason Garrett’s team?
Whoa, that’s sheer madness as Prescott’s thrown 20 TDs and only 4 INTs and Romo’s been holding a clipboard the past couple of weeks but, alas, that’s the front-and-center story deep in the heart o’Texas and that just ain’t right.
Hey, consider that Prescott already has his work cut out for ‘em going against a seriously improved Tampa Bay defense that’s allowed a league-low 12.8 ppg the past five weeks (all Buc wins/covers).
If TD-underdog Tampa Bay’s gonna pull the shocker here than that defense – minus injured LB Lavonte David – must get a big-time showing from the QB Jameis Winston-to-WR Mike Evans combo, agree?
Spread Notes – Dallas is 9-4 against the odds this season (but note the Cowboys have lost their last three pointspread verdicts) and the NFC East team is a snazzy 7-1 ATS (against the spread) in non-divisional play. Tampa Bay’s riding a five-game spread winning streak into this night-time tango.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL BOWLS
On Monday, Dec. 19th, it’s…
MIAMI BEACH BOWL
Marlins Park – Miami, FL
CENTRAL MICHIGAN (6-6) vs. TULSA (9-3) – 2:30 p.m. ET, ESPN
The latest totals price on this game is 69.5 points … too low? After all, high-octane Tulsa averages nearly 523 ypg and QB Dane Evans (3,044 yards passing with 27 TDs) may be the best non-power conference slinger in the land.
Meanwhile, Central Michigan has lost its last two bowls games – including a bitter 21-14 setback to Minnesota in the Quick Lane Bowl last year – and here the nearly two-TD underdogs are counting on QB Cooper Rush (32,99 yards passing with 23 TDs) to stay point-for-point with the Golden Hurricane here.
First team to 40 wins?
Spread Notes – Tulsa is a healthy/wealthy 8-4 versus the vig this year and the Golden Hurricane has covered five of its last six bowl games dating back to the 2007 season. Central Michigan started off the year at 3-and-oh ATS but the Chips are just 5-7 ATS overall.
On Tuesday, Dec. 20th, it’s…
MEMPHIS (8-4) vs. WESTERN KENTUCKY (10-3) – 7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN
Yet another bowl game where one of the coaches is MIA – this time it’s Western Kentucky replacing Purdue-bound Jeff Brohm with defensive coordinator Nick Holt although Notre Dame assistant Mike Sanford will be the permanent head coach right after this bowl. Got it?
And yet another game with a astronomical totals price – the over/under number here is 79 points – and so expect major fireworks from both Western QB Mike White (4,027 yards passing/34 TDs) and opposite number QB Riley Ferguson (3,326 yards passing/28 TDs).
Spread Notes – Western Kentucky is just 6-7 spreadwise this year but the Hilltoppers have notched five-of-six spread wins since late October. On the flip side, Memphis is 5-7 against the Vegas price tags this year.
