Plus A Dolphins-Bengals Thursday Nite Preview

Gotta believe the good folks at ABC/ESPN will be dancing on their desks all this week – and why not ‘cause the Disney-owned networks have three College Football Top 10 matchups this weekend beginning with Friday’s #7 Stanford at #10 Washington hoedown followed by Saturday’s great TV action that pits #8 Wisconsin at #4 Michigan and a prime-timer between #3 Louisville at #5 Clemson.

Hope you’ve restocked your cheese dip and soda pop!

We’ll shower you with those Top 10 previews in the next edition of Jim Sez but right now let’s get you this quickie reminder:

Jim Hurley’s Handicappers and Bloggers are ready to rock-n-roll with more gridiron winners this week beginning with Thursday’s NFL Week 4 bash between the Miami Dolphins at the Cincinnati Bengals (see our quick-hitter preview below) plus there’s a pair of NCAA Football games on the Thursday menu including Kansas at Texas Tech and UConn at #6 Houston plus two Friday games including the above-mentioned Stanford vs. Washington battle in Seattle.

And remember to check with the Jim Hurley Network right here online at or via our toll-free telephone # of 1-800-323-4453 after 1 p.m. ET on week days and any time after 10 a.m. ET on Saturday and Sunday for what’s gonna be a jam-packed/winning weekend ahead.

Plus get all the Major-League Baseball winners this final week of regular-season play and remember it’s the American League Wild Card Game next Tuesday, Oct. 4 and the National League Wild Card Game on Wednesday, Oct. 5 before we get full-blown into the Baseball Playoffs.

Folks, we’re finishing out September with a real bang and promise that October’s gonna rock with both Football and Baseball at the Jim Hurley Network – so don’t dare miss out on all the fun-and-profits!

On Thursday night, it’s …

MIAMI (1-2) at CINCINNATI (1-2) – 8:25 p.m. ET, NFL Network

Okay, so as everyone in the Queen City knows, the Cincy Bengals have this good news/bad news pattern going for the past five years … make the playoffs, but then be one-and-done.

Hey, what are the folks at Skyline Chili gonna grumble about this winter if the beloved Bengals don’t get to the playoffs in the first place?

No doubt that’s gotta be floating through many minds in Cincy after this bumbling 1-2 SU (straight-up) start with last weekend’s painful 29-17 home loss to the defending champion Denver Broncos. The Bengals allowed kid QB Trevor Siemian to chuck four touchdowns against this supposedly vaunted defense while much-maligned Cincinnati QB Andy Dalton couldn’t get his club into the end zone in the second half and WR A.J. Green’s 87 receiving yards were some of the quietest in recent NFL history.

The Dolphins?

Well, they’re not reminding anyone of the 1972 “perfect team” as they needed three missed Cleveland FGs to survive in 30-24 non-cover overtime win last Sunday and no running back rushed for more than 37 yards.

Paging Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick or Mercury Morris!

Spread Notes – Cincinnati is a rock-solid 8-4-1 ATS (against the spread) as betting favorites while dating back to the start of last year while Miami enters this tilt having covered its last three in a row versus the Bengals since the start of 2010.

In other NFL Week notes

Hope you saw that TV graphic put up during the Atlanta Falcons’ 45-32 win at the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football: Not once since the NFL re-jiggered their playoffs back in 2002 has a team that started 0-3 made it to the post-season.

In fact, only three times since 1990 have NFL teams started 0-and-3 and made the playoffs – so let’s wave bye-bye right now to the Cleveland Browns, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints. Heck, we’ll give you monster odds right now that none of the above will be post-season bound this winter but – just sayin’ – don’t bury those aforementioned Bengals just yet even though road games at Dallas and at New England (with Tom Brady) immediately follow this Thursday Nighter with Miami…

Pointspread notes while heading to Week 4:

NFL Betting Favorites are 22-23-0 ATS with 3 Pick ‘Em games – the NFL chalk folks went 8-8 spreadwise in Week 3 play – and take note that “overs” are a composite 27-21 versus the vig with the Falcons and the Tampa Bay Bucs both having participated in three “overs” in as many games.

Finally, three cheers for the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles – they are the only NFL teams to register perfect 3-and-oh spread marks while heading into Week 4 play.
