Just for the sake of review, note that in NFL Preseason Week 1 games last week the home teams and road teams split the 16 overall SU (straight-up) decisions while road sides actually sported a 9-7 ATS (against the spread) mark including outright upsets by the likes of Denver, Miami, Detroit, Oakland, Seattle, Indianapolis and Houston ... hey, the only Preseason Week 1 game in which the Las Vegas pointspread "meant something" was in the 28-24 non-cover win by the Los Angeles Rams over 5.5-point road underdog Dallas.

Okay, so there truly is no "home field advantage" for these preseason games - many of these contests are played in front of half-empty stadiums, of course - but one thing we like to look for in these exhibition games when it comes to Week 2 and Week 3 is what teams have decent second-string quarterbacks that could still be getting major time and, on the other hand, what teams won't risk much with their no-doubt-about-it first-string star quarterbacks.

Teams such as New Orleans, Chicago, Green Bay, New York Jets, New York Giants, Oakland and San Diego ... just to name a few ... have backup quarterbacks that ain't all that hot and we'll be mindful of that here at the Jim Hurley Network when 'capping the games this week and next week.

The 2016 NFL Preseason continues to rock-n-roll with Week 2 action beginning on Thursday Night, and then there's Three (3) games on the Friday Night card including the New York Jets at Washington plus the Seven (7) games on Saturday featuring Kansas City at Los Angeles. The College Football campaign swings into high gear on Friday, August 26th with California vs. Hawaii in Sydney, Australia and then there are a boatload of games the next week/weekend starting Thursday, Sept. 1st.

On Friday night, it's ...

NEW YORK JETS (1-0) at WASHINGTON (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. ET, CBS
Nobody's pushing the panic button yet but the 'Skins say rookie WR Josh Doctsen (TCU) won't play here with an Achilles injury having already kayoed 'em from the practice field for the better part of the past three weeks - might want to keep an eye out here for Washington WR Jamison Crowder who missed last week's 23-17 loss at Atlanta with a hamstring injury. Last year Crowder - as a rookie -- snagged 59 balls worth 604 yards and two TDs ... so why did the national media ignore this dude?
Current Line: 'Skins (- 3.5) and 40 points

MIAMI (1-0) at DALLAS (0-1) - 8 p.m. ET
All the talk in "Big D" this past week was about rookie QB Dak Prescott (Miss State) who completed 10-of-12 passes for 139 yards and two TDs in last week's loss-but-cover at the LA Coliseum - and remember both incompletions were because of dropped passes! - but let's not "bury the lead" here 'cause QB Tony Romo is expected to play his first game since Week 12 of the 2015 season, then we'll see how Prescott fares against a Miami defense that has lots of improving to do after finishing last year 26th against the run, 20th against the pass. We're zooming in on Dolphins' MLB Kiko Alonso who now is playing on his third team in four years (Buffalo, Philadelphia and now Miami).
Current Line: Cowboys (- 3.5) and 41 points

ARIZONA (0-1) at SAN DIEGO (0-1) - 9 p.m. ET
Scary stuff this past week involving Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians who had to be admitted to a San Diego-area hospital with stomach problems (he has issues with Diverticulitis) but reports are the classy coach is feeling better and will be on the sideline here and one thing Arians will be checking out is whether veteran TE Jermaine Gresham can shake off back tightness/hamstring woes and be a target for Arizona quarterbacks Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton and Matt Barkley ... did you happen to notice that in last week's 31-10 Cards' home loss to Oakland that Barkley completed just 8-of-24 passes with one pick. Ugh!
Current Line: Chargers (- 1.5) and 40.5 points
