That may strike you as a weird headline for the start of another class day here in my College of Advanced Sports Betting and Handicapping. But, it actually reflects on a key point that all serious handicappers should keep in mind.
*Sports FANS want gossip
*Sports BETTORS need helpful information
If you spend too much time watching ESPN and the other major networks…or hopping around the internet trying to find out the latest on who might be going where…then you’re virtually guaranteed to fail as a sports bettor. You’re wasting too much time!
Now, I’m not saying that personnel changes aren’t important. Once something has happened, THEN you take stock and adjust your team Power Ratings. As I’m writing this, Carmelo Anthony may stay with the Knicks…or he might move to Chicago…or he might move to Los Angeles to play with Kobe Bryant…or he might have heard something he liked last week in meetings with Houston or Dallas…or maybe he’s headed to Miami to make “the big three” a larger “big four” that’s more likely to win a title.
WHO CARES! Once he’s decided…which takes you about five seconds to listen to…then you react. How much time have NBA fans wasted over the past several days just listening to or reading about nonsense?
LeBron James has pushed himself back into the headlines by NOT announcing yet what he’s going to do. Isn’t that amazing? It’s been a TV show all weekend that might as well be called “Indecision.”
You know what I was doing all weekend while sports fans were yacking about a league that won’t even play any games until late October?
*Finding winners in Major League Baseball, and scouting out the pitching matchups for the coming week. I’m making money NOW at Vegas sportsbooks.
*Sharpening my ratings in both college and pro football because those seasons will be here so quickly.
*Reviewing the NFL exhibition schedules to look for great situation spots to exploit in August. Because I know the coaching histories so well…I can already tell you that I’ll have a couple of major releases in Week Two…and possibly as many as three in Week Three. Those games are circled right now. I’m just waiting for sportsbooks to post lines so I can bet the openers.
If you’re serious about becoming a winning sports bettor here in Las Vegas, you have to learn what to tune out. If ESPN’s website is running gossip on the front page, click over to the stats pages or game recaps. If your favorite sports channel on TV is interviewing pundit #5 about something they think they might be happening with free agent #4 in city #3, just turn off the TV and grab a copy of this week’s baseball schedule or the upcoming football schedule. Focus on information and time allotment on things that will make you money.
I’m saying this now. I don’t want to have to remind you about the importance of this theme through the rest of the summer. The media’s focused on the NBA at the moment because it’s free agent season. Soon enough, the NFL will grab the headlines leading into the Preseason. You’re already reading about where Johnny Manziel spends his weekends. Imagine how bad that stuff is going to get in a few weeks. Sure, focus on what head coaches are saying about game plans and personnel changes. Ignore all the TMZ material.
I’ll continue to provide plenty of coursework for you here on these pages through the summer. Some days we’ll talk about baseball so you can stay on top of the pennant races. Other days will be devoted to college and pro football preparation. I’m continually grateful that so many of you have worked so hard to improve your handicapping skills. It’s an honor to be The Dean of Sports Handicapping up at the podium.
If you’re looking to build your bankrolls this summer so you have plenty of cash on hand for football, you can purchase my BEST BETS right here at this very website with your major credit card. If you have any questions about early-bird football or summer baseball packages, please talk to one of my representatives in the Vegas-Sports-Masters office at 1-888-777-4155.
See you again at the end of the week. I hope you had a pleasant and safe July Fourth Weekend. I can assure you that fireworks will be going off all summer and all through the football season for the clients of KELSO STURGEON!
