The Golden Nugget Sports Book in Las Vegas has posted the first college football betting lines of the season-some accurate, some suspect and some ridiculous. With that said, defending champion Alabama is a 12-point favorite over Michigan in the marquee opener that will be played Saturday, September 1, at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

My observations after looking at the numbers:

Missouri and Texas A&M moved from the Big 12 to the Southeastern Conference this season and the early betting lines say both are in for long seasons in their new environs. For instance, Missouri is a 3-point home dog to Georgia, a 5-point dog at South Carolina and a 14 ½-point home dog to Alabama and that's before the season gets serious.

The numbers suggest Southern California-no surprise here-is going to dominate the PAC-12 Conference. LSU, as expected, also gets high marks and is a 2-point home favorite over Alabama November 1 in one of college football's most heated rivalries.

If the numbers are accurate, it is not going to be a good year and Auburn and Florida looks a little shaky.

My figures suggest South Carolina is the second-best team in the country-only behind Alabama-does not get any respect from the Golden Nugget sports book.

Here are advance betting lines on 111 games and you can bet them at the Golden Nugget right now.

15-Unit Interleague Yankees at Nationals Tops 2-0 Knockout Night
There is no doubt in my mind we are going to witness Major League Baseball at its best tonight when the New York Yankees take on the Washington Nationals and I have found the edges that permits me to release the winner of this one as a 15-unit bet. On the mound for the Yankees will be right-hander Phil Hughes (6-3, 4.20) while the Nationals counter with lefty Geo Gonzalez (8-2, 2.35) and both are at the top of their form. Win this 15-unit play, plus a second unit-rated game, for just $10, charged to your major credit card.
