The money is down but winning the bet does not figure to be an easy task as the host Miami Heat take the floor tonight leading the Oklahoma City Thunder 3-1 in the National Basketball Association's best-of-seven championship round. Miami is a 3-point favorite to win the game and the NBA title but the Thunder will be no pushover.
The championship certainly is on the minds of the Miami players but they also know what they are up against, having won their three games in this series by four, six and six points. All three wins came in contests so close the Thunder could easily have won them all.
An Oklahoma City win tonight would send the Thunder back home for the final two games of the title series and give them renewed hope while playing on a court where they are 35-8 this season. It must be noted no team in NBA history has come back from being down 3-1 to win the NBA championship.
Miami takes a season home-court record of 38-7 into tonight's game.
If you are more comfortable playing the total on a game that figures to be so close, the game opened with a number of 193 and is now 194. The money line on this game is Miami -155 while one can get +135 on Oklahoma City.
I am going for my third straight 25-unit win in this series and you can get the cash with me for just $15, charged to your major credit card. The game is available on this site and toll free at 1-800-755-2255. All major credit cards accepted.
Rockies, Padres, Tigers Destroy Bettors
The Colorado Rockies (25-42), the San Diego Padres (24-46) and the Detroit Tigers (33-35) have been Major League Baseball's biggest money destroyers (69-70 games into the current season. A wager on the Rockies in each game they have played this season would recorded an amazing 18.4-unit loss while the same wager on the Padres would put one down 17.5 units. The Tigers, despite being just two games below .500 are down 15.0 units.
The surprising Baltimore Orioles (39-30) have been the big money winners for baseball bettors, standing a plus 16.54 units at this point of the season. Other big money winners have been the Los Angeles Dodgers (42-27) at plus 13.0 units, the New York Mets (38-32) at plus 11.5 units and the Washington Nationals (39-27) at plus 10.3 units.
Connecticut Out Of NCAA Tournament
My disdain and contempt of the NCAA is a matter of public record but maybe there is some hope for these sanctimonious air-heads. They have finally done some right, even though the folks at national basketball power Connecticut and at nine other schools may disagree.
Connecticut, a three-time national champion, will not be allowed to play in the 2012-13 NCAA Tournament because it did not meet the minimal requirements of academic progress, despite having several years to get its house in order. The Huskies and the nine other teams penalized for sub-standard Academic Progress Rate, will also be banned from the coming season's college tournaments.
Here are the other nine teams that will not be permitted to play in the post season.
- Arkansas-Pine Bluff
- Cal State-Bakersfield
- Jacksonville State
- Mississippi Valley State
- North Carolina-Wilmington
- Texas A&M-Corpus Christi
The NCAA's action sent a loud and clear message with these bans-academic standards and graduation rates now mean something. It certainly is the first step in the long road back to what college athletics are supposed to be about.
