It's nice to be off to a 2-0 start in the football betting arena this week, winning a 15-unit NFL Best Bets play on the underdog New York Jets and a 25-unit Chairman's Club play on underdog Air Force, both of which got the cover. Those underdog covers set the stage for a giant weekend that is highlighted today with another winning 100-unit College Game of the Week and the biggest revenge game of the season-Alabama at Texas A&M.
Before getting into the details of the Saturday betting menu, here is what I had to say about the first two winners of the week and I am sharing it with you to give you the logic behind the wagers on the Jets and Air Force. There is a sound reason for each release I give out. Winning is no an accident with me.
The Winners And The Reasons I Released Them
As noted, I do not win by accident. There are hours of analysis behind the games I release to my clients and here is exactly what I predicted word for word on the Thursday and Friday night winners.
BEST BETS FOOTBALL INVESTMENT CLUB
15 Units: New York Jets (1-0) +12 over NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (1-0)
Prediction: Patriots by 6-7
Weather: 90% chance of thunderstorms, with game-time temperatures in the low 70s and wind out of the SW at 6-7 mph.
Comments: The game plan for both teams and the forecast of a 90% chance of rain will set the tone for this game and that points to a low-scoring affair. Breaking it down team vs. team the Jets have no running game (80 yards last week in their 18-17 win over Tampa Bay) and will again play it close to the vest offensively with rookie QB Geno Smith and it is of note they scored but one touchdown against the Bucs and ended up winning the game on the strength of 3 field goals and a safety. For the Jets, they certainly will try to win it with defense. As for New England, who blew a 10-point lead at Buffalo and ended up beating the Bills on a 35-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to play. The win proved to be costly for a very suspect Patriots team. Running back Shane Vereen (101 yards rushing and 58 yards on seven passes) broke his wrist and is out for eight weeks. WR Danny Amendola (10 catches for 104 yards) aggravated a groin injury against the Bills and is expected to miss tonight's game. Break it down any way you want and the +12 with the Jets looms as a very generous number. Results: New England Patriots 13, New York Jets 10 - Another Winning Cover
CHAIRMAN'S FOOTBALL INVESTMENT CLUB
25 Units: Air Force (1-1) +24 over BOISE STATE (1-1)
Prediction: Boise State by 13-14
Weather: Partly cloudy, with 20% chance of thunderstorms, with game-time temperatures in low 70s and with no appreciable wind.
Comments: I realize Boise State is 62-3 at home over the past 10 seasons and it should win this one. The cover is quite another matter. This edition of Boise state lacks the talent, depth and blazing speed of recent Broncos teams as they showed when they opened the season at Washington and were crushed, 38-6. Little can be made of Boise State's 63-14 win over I-AA Tennessee-Martin and thus the stage is set. While Boise State seems to be down this year, so is Air Force and it showed last week in a 52-20 home loss to Utah State after beating I-AA Colgate, 52-20, in its opener. But, the one thing Air Force can do is run its ground-hugging option offense to perfection and the Falcons are averaging 285 yards per game rushing. I look for Air Force to attempt to control the pace of this game, slow things to a walk, and keep the ball away from Boise State. For certain Air Force will come to play in this Mountain West Conference showdown. The game is also very much open to the back-door cover as Boise State has a tough one next Saturday against Fresno State and may go under wraps at some point in the second half.
Results: Boise State 42, Air Force 20 - Another Winning Cover
This is the kind of handicapping you get from me every single day and, the in-depth analysis that predicted both these pointspread winners will be working for you today.

- The Fresno State at Colorado game has been postponed because of flooding in Boulder.
- Unusually heavy money has shown on several games-UCLA over Nebraska, Middle Tennessee over Memphis and Wisconsin over Arizona State.
- The two biggest bounce-back teams on today's schedule are USC over Boston College and Texas over Mississippi. Both qualified for bounce play (your call) because of major upsets the suffered last week-USC lost at home to Washington State, 10-7, while Texas lost at BYU, 40-21.

Mayweather Fight Favorite But Big Money On Alvarez
When Floyd Mayweather, Jr. (44-0-0) gets into the ring with Saul Alvarez (42-0-1) at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas the former will be the -250 favorite but the public's money-and lots of it-will be on the underdog. The fight it scheduled for 12 rounds and it is to unify the WBA/WBC Super Welterweight title. Mayweather holds the former, Alvarez the latter.
Noted Vegas bookmaker Jimmy Vaccaro who holds court at the sports book at the South Point Hotel and Casino says 80 of all the tickets have been written on Alvarez and have driven down the price on Mayweather who he says is a legitimate -350 choice. Credit it to the heavy Mexican population in Las Vegas and the West. Alvarez is from Mexico.
Here are the prices being offered on various elements of the fight.
- Mayweather to win the fight -240
- Alvarez to win the fight +200
- Fight will go 11 full rounds -340
- Fight will not go 11 full rounds -+280
- Mayweather wins by knockout 8-5
- Mayweather wins by decision -160
- Alvarez wins by knockout 5-1
- Alvarez by decision 7-1
