The media pundits continue to pontificate on what they consider an unreasonable number of college bowl games and the fact several are meaningless and the teams playing in them do not deserve to be in the post-season. Meantime, bettors operate in the world of "the more the merrier" and are cheering over the fact they will have hundreds of additional opportunities to make a score.
- 35 opportunities to win a straight bet.
- 35 opportunities to win a totals bet.
- 35 opportunities to win a money-line wager.
- Unlimited opportunities to win with teasers, parlays and proposition bets.
- And every single game is on national television
The 35-game college bowl season begins Saturday with two games-the Gildan New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque and the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on the blue carpet in Boise. The first game matches Arizona (7-5) against Nevada (7-5) and the second Toledo (9-3) and Utah State (10-2). Both will be televised back-to-back on ESPN.
Arizona is a 9 ½-point favorite, with a total of 75 ½. Utah State is a 10-point choice over Toledo, with a total of 58.
I will be releasing my selections in all 35 games and will kick off my bowl program with a 50-unit play on one of Saturday's games and will close it with at least a 100-unit play on the BCS championship game between Alabama (12-1) and Notre Dame (12-0) on Monday night, January 7.
At the present time Alabama is a 9 ½-point favorite to beat Notre Dame and win its second straight national championship-and its third in the last four years. The total on the game is 41 ½, with the money line on the Crimson Tide -330 and +270 on the Irish.

Basketball Goes 2-0 Last Night
Because of the limited college schedule as teams take time off for final exams I released just two games last night-a college underdog and an NBA underdog-and won both bets. I take great pride in my handicapping and like to share the reasons I make my selections, so here is what I had to say about both games when they were released.
15 Units: DePaul (6-3) +5 ½ over ARIZONA STATE (8-1)
Prediction: DePaul by 3-4
Comments: It is obvious the rebuilding job Coach Oliver Purnell is doing at DePaul is right on schedule. The Blue Demons returned four of five starters from last season's 12-19 team and has hit the ground running this season, and comes into this game off an 84-50 home win over Wisconsin-Milwaukee-a contest in which they limited the latter to a shooting percentage of 25.8% from the floor. It all came together for DePaul in that game and the figures suggest the Blue Demons will play their best game of the season tonight and that should be enough to get the money over a somewhat over-rated ASU team. Arizona State is to be given credit for its 8-1 start but it also must be noted it has played a cupcake schedule and that the only road game it has played-against a legitimate opponent-resulted in an 87-73 loss at Creighton. DePaul should pull off the ambush in this one.
Results: DePaul 78, Arizona State 61 (Win)
25 Units: CHARLOTTE BOBCATS (7-13) +8 ½ over Los Angeles Clippers (15-6)
Prediction: Clippers by 3-4
Comments: There is little doubt in my mind the Clippers will win their eight straight tonight but I do look for the Bobcats, who have lost eight straight, to get the cover. Los Angeles is playing back-to-back on the road and last night was pushed to the limit before beating the Bulls, 94-89, in Chicago. They have to be a bit tired as they head into the second game of a four-game road trip and that, added to the fact, Charlotte has had an extra day's rest and had an excellent practice session yesterday, tilt the cover to the Bobcats. Again, the win should go to the Clippers, the cover to Charlotte.
Results: Clippers 100, Bobcats 94 (Win)

The schedule is limited tonight but I am going for my seventh straight NBA winner, releasing a 15-unit play on the nationally televised (TNT) Los Angeles Lakers at New York Knicks game. It is available to all Best Bets Basketball Investment Club members, or may be purchased for the daily price of $15.
Going For 7th Straight NBA Winner Tonight
The struggling Los Angeles Lakers (9-13) would like nothing better than to gain a measure of redemption for an unexpectedly bad start to the season with a win on the big stage tonight against the red-hot New York Knicks (16-5) and will most certainly try to fire their best shot in this one. Can they, and will it be enough? The betting line certainly will be in play in this one and I have found a pair of edges that should produce the winner. Get the cash with this 15-unit nationally-televised (TNT) game for just $15, charged to your major credit card. For the record, this is the seventh NBA game I have released over the past week and have gone a perfect 6-0 in those games.
My 6-0 NBA Run
12/12...25 Units...Bobcats (+8.5) 94, Clippers 100 (W)
12/11...25 Units...Clippers (-3) 94, Bulls 89 (W)
12/10...25 Units...Mavericks (-5.5) 119, Kings 96 (W)
12/8...25 Units...Heat (-13.5) 106, Hornets 90 (W)
12/7...50 Units...Jazz (-6.5) 131, Raptors 99 (W)
12/5...25 Units...Lakers (-5.5) 103, Hornets 87 (W)
The Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) take on the Eagles (4-9) tonight on national television (NFL Network) and are the 4 ½-point favorites to stay alive in the playoff race after falling last week by a single point, 20-19, to the Dallas Cowboys last week. The Eagles obviously are not going to the post-season but can still play the role of spoiler in this one and last week snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 23-21 come-from-behind win over favored Tampa Bay. This is for bettors one of the more interesting games of the week and my analysis gives one of these teams a big edge. I am releasing this game as a 25-unit play and you can win it for just $25, charged to your major credit card.
