After a wild and crazy Thursday in terms of pointspread results, many sharps are licking their wounds and hoping for better luck in Friday’s college football bowl tripleheader. Let’s see how the Wise Guys have been betting the Independence, Russell Athletic, and Meineke Car Care bowls…

Opening Line: Louisiana-Monroe by 6, total of 59

Current Line: Louisiana-Monroe by 7, total of 61

Sharps drove the team side up to the key number of seven, in anticipation that the public would move the line even higher. Any Wise Guy who preferred the favorite knew he had to beat the squares to the punch. Given that Central Michigan beat Western Kentucky straight up Wednesday Night, and Bowling Green was robbed a cover vs. San Jose State Thursday afternoon, we’re hearing that sharp interest in the MAC underdog would come in if the public moves the line above the key number.

The total is up two points, which means weather isn’t likely to be a negative in Shreveport.

Opening Line: Pick-em, total of 43

Current Line: Virginia Tech by 2, total of 41

Virginia Tech often gets respect from sharps. That proved to be a huge negative for them this past season! Virginia Tech was only 3-9 ATS in its 12 regular season games. Sharps still felt that the opener of pick-em was an overreaction by oddsmakers to Tech’s disappointing campaign. They invested in Beamer Ball all the way to an apex of -2.5. Sharps who preferred the dog interestingly came in at +2.5 rather than waiting to see if the public pushed the game to a field goal. The sharps who liked the Hokies already have their money down. Those who like Rutgers will fade any public moves on Friday before kickoff.

There’s definite Under sentiment in this game matching top 25 defenses on a surface that’s caused bowl problems in the past in Orlando. It should be noted though that Under steam from Wise Guys has had bad luck recently. Both San Jose State/Bowling Green and Washington/Boise State made it past the openers, let alone the lower post-steam numbers.

Opening Line: Texas Tech by 13, total of 57

Current Line: Texas Tech by 13, total of 55

The only sharp interest here has been on the total. There wasn’t any nibbling on the big ugly dog even though Texas Tech had a coaching change, then suspensions. And, even though many other big dogs have shown well for the bulk of their games if not the full 60 minutes. That tells you how little faith the sharps have in Minnesota! The total has dropped two points from the opener of 57. We’re hearing from our sources that sharps who wanted to fade Minnesota felt that “betting against their offense” with the total was a better approach than laying the big number. Sharps just won’t lay double digits in bowls unless there’s a very good reason.
