SportsMasters Consensus
Each of these six handicappers has their own methods of getting to the winning selections, but when 4 of the 6 agree, the odds of winning are over 70%…when 5 of 6 agree that rate rises to 77%, and when all six agree on a particular side, the game wins at an astounding 86% overall.
Obviously there aren't plays every day, or sometimes even every week; but when there are, these are the strongest plays so you can really step in and play with confidence.

BUCKEYES KNOW THEY MUST IMPRESS IN SPOTLIGHT GAME VS. MIAMICourtesy of The Jim Hurley Networkby Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
There are several big games on the schedule this weekend. The one that could have the most longterm impact on the National Championship picture is Miami-Ohio State.
Ohio State has been picked by many to reach the BCS Championship game (one assumes against the winner of the SEC, but you never know this far in advance). A strong showing here would put the Buckeyes in...

QUARTERBACKS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER IN CURRENT NFL FRAMEWORK
Courtesy of JimHurley.com
Ever since the NFL made it easier for offenses to move the ball through the air...while simultaneously doing more to protect the health of star quarterbacks...we've seen a very clear division in the league.
If you have a GREAT quarterback, then you're a Super Bowl threat even if the defense isn't great and the running game is just kind of there.
If you have a GOOD quarterback, then you're a playoff...

CAN TOMMY TUBERVILLE TAMETEXAS TECH'S WILD TENDENCIES?from the Jim Hurley Networkby Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
Imagine a pirate ship that's been very successful in the oceans as far as pirate ships go. They loot and pillage on the high seas to their heart's content. Nobody thinks of them as the best ship in the sea overall...but...they'd rank #1 in the pirate rankings to be sure.
Then, shockingly, the head pirate has a meltdown that means he has to walk the plank. He went too far....

ABC NOW STUCK WITH PRIME TIME GAME THAT'S BEEN DECIMATED BY SUSPENSIONS
Courtesy Of JimHurley.com
North Carolina vs. LSU in Atlanta wasn't exactly a dream matchup for 2010 college football. Neither team is favored to win their conference, though both are respected programs who were getting play in the rankings. Neither played an exciting brand of football last year, as offenses in the South started to fall behind defenses with a few exceptions. But...in a week that was soft in terms of marquee...

WILDCATS THINK THEY'RE POISEDTO MAKE A RUN AT THE ROSE BOWL
by Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
On some Fridays this year in the NOTEBOOK, we'll preview a huge early TV game on Saturday. Many Friday night games are kind of ho-hum. We're not going to waste space on a yawner when something like Texas-Oklahoma is set for a morning kickoff. We'll go in depth in our FRIDAY report so you have plenty of time to make a decision.
This week, the early Saturday slate isn't exactly a...

DON'T FORGET HOW BAD USC WAS IN 2009!!Courtesy of the Jim Hurley Networkby Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
Given some of the early season discussions about the USC program, you'd have thought they didn't play any games on the field in 2009. Heading into tonight's season opener at Hawaii (to be televised by ESPN), this is the scuttlebutt...
*There's a lot of talk about off-the-field transgressions.
*There's a lot of talk about a lack of institutional control...about a program that became...

SC COACH STEVE SPURRIER HASN'T ACCOMPLISHED MUCH IN YEARS!
Courtesy of JimHurley.com
You'd think ESPN announcers were paid royalties every time they called South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier "the old ball coach." Given how much he's loved by the network, it's fitting that South Carolina will open the ESPN season Thursday Night against Southern Miss.
Yup...all the great teams in the country...all the legendary coaches across the landscape. And, ESPN is opening the season with South...

NEW ORLEANS HOPING FOR RARENFC RETURN TO THE SUPER BOWLCourtesy of the Jim Hurley Networkby Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
Every season, the team that just won the Super Bowl is the team that everyone's talking about. Can they repeat? Can they build a dynasty? Is there the style that's going to take over the league? Is their coach a Hall of Fame? Is their quarterback a Hall of Famer?
ESPN runs specials on them (you may have seen Jon Gruden sit down with Drew Brews and Sean Payton this week)....

HUGE WEEKEND FOR ROAD UNDERDOGS IN PRESEASON BATTLESCourtesy of The Jim Hurley Networkby Mathew Hurley, Managing Editor
You've probably heard over the years that home field advantage doesn't mean much in the NFL Preseason. This past weekend brought that point home in dramatic fashion!
THURSDAY: New England (+3) crushed Atlanta 28-10 as a road underdog.
SATURDAY: Miami (+1.5), St. Louis (+4), the NY Jets (+1), Oakland (+3), Dallas (+3), Detroit (+3), and Green Bay (+3) also scored outright...
